Based on teens who gave birth in 1999. Economic costs are comprised of reduced future earnings of teen mothers, lost tax revenue arising from reduced future earnings, welfare/care costs, and cost relating to juvenile justice.
Statistics:
Sixty-six percent of adults say the most helpful thing public officials can do to reduce teen pregnancy is learn more about what works in preventing teen pregnancy and spread the word.
Nine out of ten adults think that solutions to reducing teen pregnancy will come mostly from adults and other leaders in their own community.
More than 80% of adults and teens agree that there has been more focus on preventing teen pregnancy in the last 5 years.
Adults and teens agree that policy makers in Washington should emphasize abstinence and contraception.
